FÅRÖ AND THE FÅRÖESE IN FOCUS

In the Fårö Documents Ingmar Bergman turns his attention to professional fishermen, smallholders and parents of small children on the island.

He sponsors the school children’s first trip, leaving the island for the south of Sweden. He picks up the bill for the reconstruction of the local community center.

Fårö is suddenly in the public eye, becomes well-known and gets media attention. The number of tourists increase. Tax assessment value is on the rise. The number of summer cottages double, triple.

The Fåröese are building camera tracks, cook food, drive boats and other vehicles, arrange explosions and fires, babysit, build houses and are extras in the films.

In this part of the exhibit you will meet some of the Fåröese who in different ways came into contact with Ingmar Bergman.
