WHERE DOES BERGMAN LIVE?

One day in April 1960,  a world famous and headstrong director arrived somewhat reluctantly at Fårö wih a freshly-written screenplay in his briefcase.

The quirky people and the strong-minded film director met face to face. The film director stayed a while. Built film sets, borrowed windows from old houses. Shot films. Set fire to abandoned farms. The island became his film set, the islanders became his builders, extas, handymen.

This gave work, experience – and a break from daily routines.

Time passed.

The quirky people and the strong-willed film director worked side by side.

Mutual respect developed.

– Where does Bergman live?

– Sorry… No idea!

– No, sorry, don’t know.

The headstrong man stayed on.

Bergman settled down.

Became a permanent resident.

A Fårö fella.
